Commission approves Routsong rezone request

The following is the Dayton Daily News Article summarizing the Planning Commission action on January 7, 2008 regarding the Routsong property.

OAKWOOD — The Oakwood Planning Commission will recommend to its city council that three parking lots surrounding the shuttered Routsong Funeral Home, 6 Oakwood Ave., be rezoned from residential to Neighborhood Business District.

The five-member commission, during its meeting Wednesday, Jan. 7, approved the rezoning request made by Routsong Realty LTD. Member Harrison Gowdy voted against the request.

"I'm sorry it wasn't the original plan. You know we'll take what we can get," said Thomas Routsong, president and owner of Routsong Funeral Home and Crematory Services.

Routsong wants to tear down his funeral home and use the property as part of a retail center. He initially asked the commission to rezone his residential lots at 20 Oakwood Ave. and 222 Irving Ave.

The rezoning of the lots is a result of changes Routsong made based on recommendations from consultants hired by the city.

I'm so disappointed in the Planning Commission's recommendation. Is there anything we can do?
